The federal government won’t be involved in AI – but states will fill the gap
Mr. Trump plans to rescind Mr. Biden’s AI executive order by February, and his agency chiefs plan to follow suit and rescind current guidance. DC will likely take a lighter stance when it comes to AI regulation, as AI czar David Sachs values innovation and industry collaboration. Some existing guidelines will be replaced with broader, industry-friendly guidelines, while others will simply be removed. And I don’t think there will be any major AI legislation coming out of Congress. California or New York will go through something big. Disclosure and opt-out requirements for workers and applicants are anticipated. More than 30 states have already convened AI commissions and task forces to create legislation that will likely begin to be passed locally, so there are concerns about AI bias and other issues. We will soon see a patchwork of state laws with different approaches to addressing AI law issues in the United States. . Those new to DC will find themselves embroiled in an AI-related scandal.
