Eindhoven The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Technology (TU/e) is looking for several assistant professors to be founding faculty members of the Safe AI Center who are fully committed to this mission of Safe AI and who can translate that mission. The Center for Safe AI’s mission is to enable and ensure the safe and responsible use of AI in a wide range of industrial and societal applications over the next decade. The Center believes that (the use of) AI models are interpretable, explainable, unbiased, non-degradable, robust against adversarial attacks, capable of handling noisy data, scalable, and legally and ethically compliant. It has excellent computational efficiency and data storage efficiency. The success of the Center and its researchers will be measured by whether they achieved their goals, rather than by traditional research metrics.
We are seeking AI talent with a strong commitment to a mission-focused research roadmap that addresses technical and socio-technical challenges in secure AI development and applications based on the following themes: Masu. :
Align AI values: Align AI to moral values and ethical standards, including but not limited to fairness, accountability, justice, and transparency. AI Compliance: Facilitate meaningful auditing and certification of AI systems related to laws, regulations, and policies. AI robustness: Enables AI-based systems to remain resilient across a wide range of situations, including unforeseen circumstances and adversarial use. AI frugality: Developing computational and data efficiency, resource efficiency, and sustainable AI practices. AI and human collaboration: Support and enable collaborative work in the context of next-generation AI and data intelligence ecosystems.
To achieve the Center’s goals, we collaborate across disciplines in data and computer science (machine learning, data management, visualization, human-computer interaction) and disciplines (law, philosophy, social sciences, mathematics, etc.). We are looking for researchers who are open to innovative research. target. We expect the successful applicant to develop the Center’s mission-oriented research program with a direct pathway to social impact. example:
Secure additional guarantees in existing AI theory and applications. Find out and hear from policymakers, legal practitioners, and others about AI issues and disputes. Provide theory and tools to the research community. Further scrutiny of AI research and real-world AI systems. Design and develop “future-proof” AI. Guidance on domestic implementation of laws related to AI law and others. Triple the speed of research and development by eliminating the bad parts of AI and strengthening the good parts. The National Education Policy on Data and AI embodies our research. We promote the adoption of our research-based equipment in schools domestically and internationally.
Requirements:
PhD in AI, ML, data science, or other related field. Ability to conduct high quality academic research as reflected in demonstrable results. Experience with successful interdisciplinary research. Experience conducting research with external non-academic partners. Motivated to engage in mission-driven research on safe AI and focus on achieving goals. Strong collaborative skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams. Effective communication and leadership skills. This includes the ability to (co) supervise doctoral candidates, engineering PhD and master’s thesis students, and lead research projects. Ability to teach and supervise master’s degree students. This is demonstrated by teaching experience or teaching support. Ability to develop and provide research-oriented education. Excellent English language skills (written and oral).

18 month contract as Assistant Professor. If the evaluation is successful, you can become permanent at the same employment level after 12 months. Experienced candidates may be offered a permanent contract already at the start of employment. Teaching duties are focused on supervising (groups of) master’s students and EngD trainees to support Safe AI’s mission and single course instruction in their area of expertise (0.3 feet). Funding to hire a PhD candidate or postdoc. Salary according to collective collective agreements of Dutch universities, scale 11 (minimum 4,492 euros, maximum monthly total of 6,148 euros).
