Recent revelations highlight the critical role whistleblowers and investigative journalists play in bringing AI to the bottom of Big Tech’s reckless competition.
Reports of pressure to speed up safety testing and attempts to prevent employees from publicly raising concerns reveal an alarming lack of accountability and transparency. This puts us all at risk.
Brave employees bring fraud and safety issues to light as AI companies race desperately to develop increasingly powerful and potentially dangerous systems without meaningful governance or oversight. is more important than ever. Our continued well-being and national security depend on it.
Current whistleblower protections need to be strengthened. Currently, many of these protections only apply if the law is broken. AI is largely unregulated, so employees and former employees don’t feel safe speaking up when they witness dangerous and irresponsible behavior. We urgently need stronger transparency laws like California’s proposed SB1047, which aims to provide safe and secure innovation for frontier AI.
The Future of Life Institute recognizes brave individuals who strive to bring critical incidents and violations to the attention of governments and the public. Lawmakers should act immediately to pass legal measures that provide these individuals with the protections they deserve.
