Deepseek sent shockwaves through Wall Street and Silicon Valley, causing the insanity of AI adoption in China. The Hangzhou-based company is known for offering generous compensation packages to attract talent with algorithms and computing, but also brings together small teams of “data omniscience.”
Employees who hold the unique name role are tasked with procuring history, culture, literature and science knowledge to build a vast virtual library.
Wang Zihan, a former Deepseek employee, said in a live streaming webinar last month that the role was tailored to individuals with literature and social science backgrounds. They provide insight into different datasets for model training and inject human touch into the company’s low-cost but high-performance models. “They contribute to the efficiency of every team and develop ideas,” Wang said.
According to a recent social media post by Zheng Sizing, another Deepseek employee, part of the role has been met by Chinese and literature alumni. They significantly improve the quality of Chinese content generated by DeepSeek through carefully curated training data.
The first text generated by Deepseek, who went viral on the Chinese internet, is a cleverly crafted post attributed to founder Liang Wenfeng, addressing the claim that Deepseek changed the fate of China’s nationality.
