Cedar Rapids, Iowa (KCRG) — Zach Krawiek and Casey Clary first met as Page in 2014 at the Iowa Legislature.
More than a decade later, the Iowa House and the Governor’s offices are using AI software called redible.
“We knew how things worked in the state, and it was like inspiration for building a product,” Clary said.
With thousands of bills introducing each session, Clary said it was easy to read.
“So, summaries of many contextualized bills, the ability to ask deep questions, the ability to understand and see around corners. Planning Commission’s testimony, drafting, talking points, countertalking, newsletters, reports,” said.
Krawiec said the platform has 170 users in Iowa, Georgia, Nebraska and Illinois. And they work to expand to all 50 states.
“Anyone who is actively playing a role in the process of providing information to the law, passing it and communicating it to its members and communities,” Krawiec said.
And Clary added that he has a safeguard.
“We take a lot of precautions to ensure that, or to ensure the accuracy of our platform. But the people in the loop are really important. And we’re not trying to replace lawmakers or employees in government issues.
Procircular cybersecurity expert Aaron Warner said that even with safeguards, all software is vulnerable.
However, he said it was exciting to see the state government interested in new technologies.
“One of the things that are good at is taking a huge amount of documents and understanding them in a state government-like environment. There, I had the opportunity to accumulate years and years of laws, and I think that’s a great way to clean up.”
The founder said he hopes the program will continue to evolve.
“We really see a world where we can write laws more efficiently and effectively in all 50 state legislatures,” Clary said. “To know that and that there is a desire for something like that, working in that spirit is a really good testimony that we are on the right track.”
Use growing technology to shape the future of legislative processes.
“There are moments when people who have spent the last 20 years in public life spending analog and in a way that is like things, realizing that the future of this kind of vertical work has arrived.
