New data reveals key regional disparities in AI adoption between businesses in London and Northern Europe.
As AI revolutionizes the revolutionary industry and the UK strives to become a global AI leader, businesses in the North risk falling behind unless they are taken away from action.
The results come from a survey of 1,000 IT decision makers conducted by ANS in collaboration with YouGov.
82% of London companies believe that AI is important for their long-term strategic goals, but only 44% of companies in the north share this perspective.
London companies also understand the long-term impact on AI-related roles and responsibilities, with 76% expecting an increase in these roles next year, compared to the North, where this figure is half (37%).
Due to this strong strategic understanding, 37% of London companies have already incorporated AI into some business practices. In comparison, only 18% of Northern businesses adopt technology.

The Northwest stands out as the most recognized region in the North, with 27% of companies that consider AI to be extremely important for their long-term strategic objectives far more than the Northeast (4%) and Yorkshire and Humber (6%).

As the Northwest focuses on levelling the North from the government, there is a unique opportunity to catch up with London by embracing AI and developing the talents of the next generation of AI.
“The huge difference between feelings about AI and feelings in hiring across the UK is shocking,” said ANS CEO Richard Thompson.
“This is a technology with potential for change for businesses of all sizes, industries and society at large.
“The government is focusing on AI investment in the North, but businesses in the North in particular should be inwardly looking to assess how they will leverage AI power within their businesses before they are left behind.
ANS CTO Kyle Hill added: “Being AI ready is important for all businesses if they want to move forward. Our data shows that if they don’t quickly adapt and embrace this new technology, there is a risk that businesses in the North will be down in level.
“But likewise, they need to spend time understanding which systems are most beneficial to them and invest in creating a robust foundation first.
“It’s important to implement the right infrastructure and processes, from the right cloud technology to data structure and comprehensive staff training.
“Every business deserves long-term benefits using AI, no matter what size or location.
