Openai today announced Nextgenai, a new consortium with 15 major universities and research institutes that use AI to accelerate research breakthroughs and improve education. Openai claims that Nextgenai can allow for progress at a faster rate than any institution.
As part of Nextgenai, Openai has committed $50 million in research grants, calculation funds and API access to support students, educators and researchers. The NextGenai Consortium includes the following founding partners:
California State University Systems Duke Georgia University Harvard University Howard University Massachusetts Michigan Institute of Technology Mississippi University Ohio University Oxford University of Science Oxford University of Science A&M University Boston Hospital Boston Public Library
The above institutions are already working on several important projects that use the power of AI. Harvard and Boston Children’s Hospital are using Openai tools and Nextgenai funds to improve the speed and accuracy of patient diagnosis. Howard University employs AI to create new curricula and experiments with innovative educational technologies.
The Bodleian Library at Oxford University utilizes Openai’s API to transcription of rare digitized texts, allowing global audiences to be searched. MIT calculates Openai’s APIs and funds to advance AI research, including training, fine-tuning custom models, and creating new applications.
Brad LightCap, Chief Operating Officer of Openai, said the following regarding the upcoming Genai launch:
“The field of AI is not where we are today without decades of work in the academic community. Continuous collaboration is essential to building AI that benefits everyone. Nextgenai catalyzes a new generation of institutions equipped to accelerate research advancement and leverage the transformational power of AI.”
The Nextgenai Consortium aims to bring together academia and industry to expand the use of AI in laboratories, libraries, hospitals and classrooms around the world.
