New Delhi: As the national capital gears up to usher in 2025, Delhi Police has rolled out comprehensive security measures to ensure the safety of the celebrations. Police personnel will remain vigilant throughout the city, from bustling markets to shopping malls, cinemas and restaurants.
AI Surveillance This new year will bring major advances in security measures. The most popular festive hotspots like Connaught Place will be kept under surveillance through AI systems programmed to detect suspicious activity and alert authorities in real time.
Debesh Mahara, deputy commissioner of New Delhi Police (DCP), said the AI surveillance system ‘Ikshana’ has been designed using advanced 360-degree cameras and cutting-edge software to analyze crowd behavior.
The system is integrated with a database of known criminals and suspicious persons, allowing you to report concerns instantly. If Ikshana detects any irregular activity, it will immediately alert the police.
Specially deployed teams to respond to these alerts operate in Yodda vehicles equipped with anti-riot gear and advanced equipment to deal with emergencies.
The Yoddha response vehicles will be manned by Delhi Police’s special forces and will be ready to respond to any situation, from crowd mismanagement to potential security threats.
These vehicles are an integral part of this year’s enhanced security apparatus, ensuring quick action in case of need. In addition to technical surveillance, a large-scale deployment of police personnel is planned, including more than 600 police and paramilitary forces. More than 50 police pickets will be stationed alone at Connaught Place, but plainclothes officers will move carefully among the crowds.

Mahara said motorcycle patrols will further strengthen vigilance and ensure quick mobility and necessary response to emergencies.

Police will also ensure security at major celebration venues such as Connaught Circus, Khan Market, The Lalit, Imperial, Taj Palace and other prominent hotels, parks, temples and major tourist spots.
Additional teams will be deployed to popular malls, movie theaters and restaurants. DCP Mahara further said that breath analyzers will be used at various checkpoints to monitor drivers to ensure safe roads during the celebrations.
DCP Devesh Mahara said the strict measures will ensure that no one will be able to hold unauthorized gatherings or protests during the period.
A celebration.
Section 163 of the BNS Act is in force and no demonstrations are permitted without prior permission. Key locations such as bus stands, metro stations, cinema halls, shopping malls and markets will also be fortified with strategic placement of paramilitary forces and Delhi Police.
