Regulatory approval is clearing the way Manus’ AI assistants will launch in China.
Chinese AI startup Manus has registered AI assistants in the domestic market, attracting the attention of state media and signaling government support for expansion.
The company, which recently gained global recognition, was featured on CCTV in China in a segment comparing AI agents to chatbots created by Deepseek chatbots.
Beijing’s growing interest in its home country’s AI companies follows the success of Deepseek, which developed a lower cost and more competitive AI model than its US counterparts.
Manus has created headlines to develop AI agents that can make autonomous decisions with minimal prompts beyond traditional chatbots like ChatGpt.
The company recently announced a partnership with Alibaba’s Qwen AI team. This is a movement that can accelerate the development in China. Currently, AI agents are only available through invitation codes with a waiting list of 2 million users.
Regulatory approval was also secured for Manus’ AI assistant Monica, which allowed it to launch in China. All domestically generated AI applications must comply with strict content rules, in line with Beijing’s policy.
Manus’ presence in China emphasizes the government’s strategy to promote domestic AI innovation while ensuring regulatory oversight.
