The European Commission has approved the 2025-2027 Digital European Programme (Digital) Work Programme and has allocated 1.3 billion euros to advance key technologies essential to the future of the EU and technological sovereignty.

Digital is an EU fundraising initiative designed to bring digital technology closer to businesses, citizens and government. Digital technology is essential to addressing communication, work, science and environmental challenges.

The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted its dependence on European external systems, and Russia’s war against Ukraine exposed the vulnerability of its digital supply chain. To ensure security and self-sufficiency, the EU must invest in cybersecurity and strengthen its digital infrastructure.

With the total budget exceeding 8.1 billion euros, the program focuses on several key areas, including supercomputing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, advanced digital skills, and extensive adoption of digital technology across the economy and society. Helps you manage your industry, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and digital transformation through the expansion network of the European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIHS).

The Digital Work Program focuses on AI, the cloud, data, cybersecurity, and the driving of digital skills across Europe. It aims to expand AI adoption by improving access to generated AI, especially in the health and care sectors, and supporting energy-efficient data spaces under the AI factory initiative. Enhanced Edihs helps businesses and public institutions access AI expertise, training and technology testing.

Another important priority is to advance the Destination Earth initiative, which is developing digital models of the planet to support climate adaptation and disaster risk management. Improved critical infrastructure protection, including hospitals and submarine cables, through initiatives such as the EU Cybersecurity Reserve, will increase cyber resilience.

The program also focuses on improving digital skills by supporting educational and training institutions and developing and maintaining top digital talent. This will promote the implementation of EU Digital Identity Wallets and European Trust Infrastructure, ensuring the adoption of secure digital identities across member countries. Furthermore, they seek to modernize public services by promoting efficient, high quality, interoperable digital administration.

Through these initiatives, the programme aims to strengthen European digital autonomy and technical leadership.

Innovation will also be accelerated by new European strategic technologies (STEP). This will award step seal quality labels to promising projects and improve opportunities to access public and private funding.

“Ensuring technological sovereignty in Europe starts with investment in advanced technologies and enabling people to improve their digital capabilities. The opportunities under the Digital Europe program ensure that new technologies can reach European citizens, businesses and public management.
