Pridefully housed at Greater Manchester University (formerly Bolton University), the Centre of Things of Things (CIOTH) celebrates its first anniversary as a pioneering force in artificial intelligence, computing and interdisciplinary research.

Since its official launch with the construction of the Bolton Senate on June 7, 2024, Cioth has rapidly established itself as a world-class research and innovation powerhouse.

Research, education, and impact excellence

With over 30 peer-reviewed publications, over 30 active research intentions, and thriving MRE in AI and computing programs supporting 66 graduate students, Cioth has become a transformative hub of research and advanced learning. The strategic focus on real-world applications continues to shape the future of AI, filling in academic innovations social relevance.

Global collaboration, local transformation

Cioth’s academic and industrial collaboration across the continent will reach Nigeria (OAU IFE), Ivory Coast (TSB), China, India, Sri Lanka and across the UK. The Centre proudly trains World Trade Organization (WTO) staff, consistently hosts renowned international speakers and lecturers, enriching global dialogue on AI, ethics and sustainable innovation.

Synergistic effects between industry and public services

Through strategic partnerships with partners such as North West Ambulance Service (NWAS), Cioth offers shocking data solutions that directly improve emergency healthcare delivery and public sector performance. These collaborations reflect the spirit of Cioth. Technology must serve humanity.

Inspirational Innovations: Research Kitchen and November to remember

Within its flagship initiative, Research Kitchen is a joint lab for the co-creation of live research among students, academics and industry experts. The centre is also proudly hosting the legendary “November To Remember,” a groundbreaking annual event that brings together great hearts to explore bold ideas and rethink what is possible.

Next frontier: high performance computing with scans

With major leap advances, Cioth partnered with Scan to build cutting-edge, high-performance computing (HPC) facilities to enhance large-scale simulation, AI model training, and real-time analytics to support complex research agendas.

Leadership Statement

Speaking on the anniversary, Center’s head Professor Celestine Ywendy said the AI Eagle had landed.

He said, “We took off with vision. It won’t stop until the centre reaches the ambitious goals we set. Cioth is not just a research unit, it’s a global movement of ideas, innovation and impact.”

The future is intelligent

Driven by a strategic vision, bold leadership and global thinking, Yendi said, “The center of intelligence in things is not just prepared for the future, it is building it. Researchers, innovators and changemakers are invited to connect and work together through www.ciothings.com.”
