Amazon.com Inc. amzn Subsidiary Ring has introduced a new feature, video description, featuring AI Generals, to enhance security in the home.
What happened: New features, video descriptions, utilize Generated AI (GEN AI) to provide detailed alerts to distinguish between emergency and everyday activities at a glance. According to an official announcement Thursday, the feature is currently available in beta for Ringhome Premium subscribers in the US and Canada.
Ring founder Jamie Siminoff said the company is taking advantage of the possibility of shifting more home security responsibilities towards the ring’s AI. When enabled, the Video Description feature provides textual descriptions of motion activities captured by the ring doorbell and camera, providing real-time details of the event. The description is designed to be concise so users can quickly determine whether an activity requires attention.
The Ring also plans to combine multiple motion activities into a single alert to generate alerts only if something unusual happens on a user’s properties.
Video descriptions are currently being rolled out in beta and can be enabled through the Ring app to ring US and Canada Home Premium Subscribers. This feature is compatible with all currently available ring doorbells and cameras.
Why it matters: AI integration in Home Security Systems is becoming more and more common.
