Disney+ launched in 2019 and has given the fandom plenty of reasons to stick around ever since. Whether it’s TV shows and movies from the biggest franchises like Marvel or Star Wars, Disney projects, or original hits like The Mandalorian and Moon Knight, the streaming platform has content for every audience. Recently, during the September quarter earnings call, Bob Iger hinted at upgrades that are sure to take Disney+’s popularity to a new level.
Bob Iger teases AI and game-like upgrades for Disney+
For the time being, Disney+ is a streaming platform where viewers can enjoy their favorite movies and TV shows. But Bob Iger seems to want something more for those loyal fans while attracting new fans. He reportedly recently confirmed that the platform will soon have game-like features and AI content. The CEO wants audiences around the world to experience everything Disney has to offer. For example, we want them to enjoy Disney theme parks and restaurants.
“We have an opportunity to use it as an engagement engine for people who want to go to our theme parks, people who want to stay in our hotels, people who want to enjoy our cruises and cruise ships.”
The AI upgrade also gives users the opportunity to create clips from their favorite Disney projects, such as Frozen and other Disney movies and series. You are also free to create short animation projects within the app.
“Another thing we’re really looking forward to is what AI will allow us to do: give Disney+ users a more engaging experience, including the ability to create user-generated content and consume content (primarily short-form) created by other users.”
Iger also acknowledged that he and other company executives have recently spoken with some of the most prestigious AI companies. However, he did not reveal their names.
Meanwhile, the company has invested heavily in Epic Games. As such, the platform will soon have some mini-games, or at least some game-like features. At this time, there are no major details regarding this upgrade or a specific date when the upgrade will roll out on Disney+. The streaming platform appears poised to outpace competitors like Netflix and Amazon Prime. But don’t get your hopes up until you can experience the upgrade.
