Governor Abbott bans Chinese AI, social media apps on state-issued devices

Austin – Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced a ban on the use of China’s AI and various social media apps on state-issued devices.

On Friday, the governor’s office issued a notice of the ban, saying that artificial intelligence (AI) and social media apps affiliated with the People’s Republic of China will not be used on state devices.

Concerns may arise from or be collected by apps, and many officials are concerned about the app’s ability to potentially obtain sensitive information and send it back to servers in China. It’s there.

“Texas will not allow the Chinese Communist Party to infiltrate the state’s critical infrastructure through data halibate AI and social media apps,” Gov. Abbott said. “The state agencies and employees responsible for the processing of critical infrastructure, intellectual property and personal information must be protected from malicious espionage by the Chinese Communist Party.”

Abbott has ordered the Public Safety Agency (DPS) and the Department of Information Resources to add various applications to its list of banned software for contractors, employees and students to operate on Texas government devices.
