The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has solicited feedback from Kenyans on draft guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the media.
MCK CEO David Omwoyo announced in a statement on Monday that the council has developed guidelines addressing the use of AI, data and social media to ethically and appropriately integrate them into professional journalism in Kenya. .
Omwoyo stressed that public participation in policy-making is mandated by the constitution.
“The Council invites the public, stakeholders and all interested parties to submit their views, comments and recommendations on the draft guidelines. This will help inform the review and ensure that the guidelines are viewed from a wide range of perspectives. , ensuring that it reflects the needs of the industry and meets the needs of the industry,” he said.
The CEO shared that the Council has developed four important documents on guidelines. These include the Data Governance Guide for Media Practice in Kenya, the Media Handbook for Reporting on Artificial Intelligence in Kenya, the Media Guide to the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Kenya, and the Guide. On the use of social media and the internet in media practices in Kenya.

He emphasized the importance of adopting standards to preserve journalistic integrity and maintain public trust as AI, data and social media tools continue to transform the field of journalism.
“These guidelines aim to support the media in dealing with these technological advances while maintaining professionalism and ethics,” he said.
