Midjourney has announced the alpha release of its V7 image generation model for testing by the AI community. The new model prevents improvements in text quick understanding, image quality and feature coherence.
“The V7 is an amazing model. It’s much smarter at text prompts, and the image prompts look great. The image quality is noticeably high with beautiful textures, and all kinds of bodies, hands and objects have very good consistency for all details,” explained Midjourney.
A key innovation in V7 is the default activation of model personalization. The user must first unlock this feature. This is a process that takes about 5 minutes. This personalization can be switched on or off at any time, and is intended to significantly improve the AI’s ability to interpret users’ desires and aesthetic preferences. Midjourney believes this feature will set new benchmarks to help you understand the intent of the user.
Midjourney introduces features along with a V7 image generation model called “Draft Mode.” This promises to generate images at 10 times the cost and half the cost.
This speed improvement allowed Midjourney to implement a unique “conversation mode” in its web interface. Users can now instruct the system to make changes, such as replacing cats with owls or changing daytime from daytime, and AI will automatically adjust the prompts to begin a new image generation task.
Draft mode also includes audio input function. By pressing the microphone button, users can express their ideas verbally and view images generated in near real time.
Midjourney believes that draft mode provides an unprecedented way to refine creative concepts. If the generated image is attractive, users can select the “Enhance” or “Change” option to re-render in full quality. The draft images are of lower quality compared to the standard mode, but their behavior and aesthetic properties are consistent.
Midjourney’s V7 image generation model is initially available in two speed modes: turbo and relax. Standard speed mode is now further optimized and is expected to be released soon. Midjourney revealed that hiring a turbo costs twice as much as a standard job, but draft jobs cost half.
The company also provided updates on other features. Features such as upscaling, editing, and retextting will return to using the V6 model first, with future updates planned. Moodboard and SREF features are currently operational and are expected to improve performance with subsequent updates.
Looking at the near future, Midjourney outlined an active development schedule. Users can expect new features every 1-2 weeks for the next 60 days. An important feature is the new V7 character and object reference function.
Finally, Midjourney advises users that the V7 is an entirely new model with its own strengths and potential weaknesses. They encourage experimentation and feedback on its functionality, reminding users that different prompt techniques may be required compared to previous versions.
