Recent data from Statista shows that in the first nine months of 2024, artificial intelligence (AI)-related investments accounted for 33% of total investments in U.S.-based venture capital-backed companies; is up 19% from 2020.
A company called AIPRM analyzed venture capital investment trends from 2012 to the present to predict which countries will invest the most in AI in 2025.
To do this, the company collected information on venture capital investments in AI startups, AI in environmental sustainability, generative AI startups, and computing startups. AIPRM reviewed the OECD. AI’s global data on venture capital investments. The company looked at data from 2012 to 2024.
US-wide insights
The United States is expected to receive the most venture capital investment in AI in 2025, with the forecast pegging it at $87.4 billion. The US is also predicted to invest the most in AI computing startups in 2025. Nevertheless, China is predicted to be the biggest investor in AI in environmental sustainability, with just 17.8% ahead of the US. All countries analyzed are experiencing positive growth in venture capital investment in AI.

Analysis reveals that the United States is projected to become the largest investor in AI by 2025. In 2012, US investors were already pouring billions of dollars ($2.4 billion) into AI. By 2024, this will jump to $80.5 billion. AIPRM uses linear regression to predict that the U.S. will invest $87.4 billion by 2025. Notably, the United States had the highest predicted venture capital investment in AI computing startups in 2025 at $9.5 billion. AI computing startups are companies focused on building the technology and infrastructure needed to run artificial intelligence systems more efficiently, quickly, and cheaply.
Following as the second highest predicted investor in 2025 is China. Although significantly lower than the US ($165 million) in 2012, investment in China surged to $37.7 billion in 2024. China had the highest predicted venture capital investment in AI in environmental sustainability in 2025.
The UK is predicted to become the third largest investor in venture capital in 2025. In 2012, investments in AI were approximately $121 million; today, investments in AI are $6.4 billion. Forecast figures using linear regression suggest the UK will invest around $7 billion.
