Survey: 85% of life sciences professionals are concerned about the impact different AI regulations will have on cross-border collaboration

Survey: 85% of life sciences professionals are concerned about the impact different AI regulations will have on cross-border collaboration

The Pistoia Alliance, a global non-profit alliance advocating for increased collaboration in life sciences research and development, is collaborating with the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), a leader in copyright advancement and knowledge acceleration, in a global The results of the survey have been announced. Although 83% of life sciences professionals are currently using generative AI in their research, concerns remain widespread (85%) about how differences in AI regulations will impact cross-border research collaboration. Furthermore, 42% of respondents said they do not think about copyright before sharing or using third-party information in AI tools. The survey was conducted at the Alliance’s annual U.S. conference, held this year in Philadelphia. The conference brought together more than 200 industry experts to collaborate on topics such as AI regulation, harmonization of data standards, and patient-centricity.

“While it is encouraging to see such a growing number of researchers using generative AI to accelerate research and development, it is concerning that copyright is often an afterthought. “AI is a complex field that requires expertise, yet less than half (40%) of organizations have a dedicated team or personnel,” said Babis Marmanis, CCC Executive Vice President and CTO. states. “

“AI is rapidly becoming commonplace in research and development, but one-fifth of researchers are still not using the technology.The best way to overcome persistent adoption hurdles is to work together. We will ensure that the remaining researchers have the confidence and expertise to use AI safely, so they can accelerate discoveries and deliver better outcomes for patients. ” said Becky, President of the Pistoia Alliance. Dr. Upton commented. “Whether it’s copyright compliance, broad AI regulatory ambiguity, or data standardization, the Alliance is committed to launching projects that have a tangible impact on the life sciences industry. As we get closer, we are working hard on new project proposals and look forward to further expanding the scope of the Alliance with more research and projects and involving even more global regulatory bodies in our community. .”
