I know that social media platforms (such as Myspace, Facebook/Meta, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, YouTube, Reddit, Tiktok, LinkedIn, Weibo, Tumblr, VSCO, etc.) are becoming the mainstays in both personal and professional life. The program examines the user’s content, engagement with the platform, and how long a user is on the platform. Without notification to users, algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) analyze this data to understand user preferences, with the aim of predicting the type of content the user wants to see. Over time, platform ads and search responses are designed to conform to user preferences. The goal is to provide a better experience for our users. However, for users, these same systems affect the user’s choices and ultimately affect the information they see on social media.
