wtf? ! Scarlett Johansson, who previously opposed the misuse of AI, is now asking the US government to pass laws that protect people from this practice. It comes after the black widow actress and several other celebrities have appeared in AI-generated videos that went viral.
The video in question was created by Instagram users and they call themselves generative experts in their bio. This was a response to Kanye West’s Super Bowl ads, where the rapper bought advertising space during the game to increase traffic to his website. After the ads aired, West changed the site to a storefront containing one item: a white Swastika T-shirt. Shopify deleted the storefront right after it went live.
Response Video features AI-generated versions of Johansson, Drake, Natalie Portman, Jerry Seinfeld, Steven Spielberg, Sam Altman, Mark Zuckerberg, Woodyaren and several other Jewish celebrities. They all show their middle fingers wearing white t-shirts with cartoon hands featuring the Star of David in the middle. The word “kanye” is written below.
Like most modern generation AI videos, this makes many people convinced that it is a real celebrity involved. It has the usual indication that it is an AI work, such as blurry, sometimes strange hands, and creepy valley faces, but not everyone notices them. The video ends with “It’s Enough” and “Entering the Battle against Anti-Semitism.”
In a statement, Johansson said she has no tolerance for anti-Semitism or hate speech of any kind, but “the possibility of hate speech harboring AI is what anyone would be accountable for. I firmly believe that this is a much bigger threat than that.” Regardless of the message, there is a risk of calling for the misuse of AI or losing real-life hold. ”
“Unfortunately, I was a very public victim of AI, but the truth is that the threat of AI affects each and every one of us,” she added.
In 2019, Johansson denounced a deepfake porn video of overlaying faces on the body of an adult actress. The Avengers star appeared in many of these videos. This includes videos that have been viewed over 1.5 million times.
“I can’t stop someone from sticking my image or someone else on another body and making it look creepy and realistic as desired,” she said. “The fact is that trying to protect yourself from the Internet is basically a lost cause (…) the Internet is a vast wormhole of darkness that eats itself.”
Johansson also got used to Openai last year when the GPT-4O model voice featured Sky, a voice assistant that sounds like her. Johansson said he was approached by Openai to speak up with Sky nine months ago, but said no. She added that the similarities resulted in “being forced to hire an attorney.”
“When it comes to AI, there’s a 1,000-foot wave of some progressive countries responding in a responsible way, not including the US. When the US government passes legislation that protects everything. , it’s scary that the US government is paralyzed. Citizens against the imminent dangers of AI,” Johansson said in a recent statement.
“I urge the US government to pass laws that restrict AI from using its top priorities, a bipartisan issue that has a major impact on the future of humanity as a whole.”
