78% of CISOs experience impacts from AI cyber threats

Darktrace’s 2025 AI Cybersecurity Report discusses the changing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in cybersecurity and features insights from over 1,500 security experts around the world. According to the report, 78% of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) see the impact from AI-driven cyber threats. This represents a 5% increase from 2024.

The AI ​​fuel threat is affecting more CISOs, but over 60% feel they are well prepared to protect against such threats (up nearly 15% year-on-year).

95% of cyber experts believe that AI can speed and efficiency of prevention, detection, response and recovery efforts against cyber threats. Nevertheless, the report highlights the persistence of knowledge deficiencies. Only 42% have a complete understanding of AI in an organization’s security stack, with a significant gap in understanding between CISOS (60%), IT security administrators (14%), and IT security analysts/operators (10%).

To strengthen skills shortages, many organizations intend to leverage AI, and 88% advocating for AI use is essential to improve positivity and free up time for security teams. 64% of reports plan to engage AI-driven solutions in their organization’s security stack, with only 11% reporting plans to increase cyberstaff in 2025. Regarding AI policies, 95% of organizations discuss the use of secure AI with their formal policies (50%) or implementation (45%).
