Want to show off your robotics talent? The AMD Open Robotics Hackathon, hosted by AMD, Hugging Face, and Data Monsters, is the place to do it. Whether you’re a student, hobbyist, startup founder, or seasoned engineer, this event brings together makers, programmers, and roboticists for a fast-paced, hands-on competition to turn bold ideas into working demos.
The first of two in-person hackathons will be held in Tokyo from December 5th to 7th, 2025. Next destination is Paris, France from December 12th to 14th, 2025.
Hackathon preparation:
Assemble a team of up to four roboticists (18+) to complete two missions over three days.
Mission 1 — Instructor-led exploration and preparation session. Learn how to set up a LeRobot development environment using AMD AI solutions
Mission 2 — Build your own creative solutions to real-world problems. Your team has two days to develop an innovative freestyle project using LeRobot.
Recommended technical skills:
• Strong Linux development skills and experience with Python and related tools and containerization.
• Machine learning skills, PyTorch knowledge, hands-on experience with model training and inference.
• Bonus if your team has ROCm, LeRobot, or embedded development experience.
Hardware will be provided to contestants in the form of an SO-101 robotics kit, a laptop with an AMD Ryzen™ AI processor, and access to an AMD Instinct™ MI300X GPU on the AMD Developer Cloud. A user guide and related information will be provided at the start of the contest.
Prizes will be awarded to the top seven teams in each city, with the first place team receiving $10,000. To qualify, teams must complete both missions, and judges will rate Mission 2 projects on creativity, difficulty, ease of use, and practicality out of 100.
If you’re interested in robotics and edge AI and want to see how your ideas work in practice, the AMD Open Robotics Hackathon is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.
