NORRISTOWN, Pennsylvania — New legislation was announced Thursday to combat “deepfake” images of minors and child sexual abuse material generated by artificial intelligence (AI).

Sen. Tracy Pennycuick, Montgomery County Attorney Kevin Steele, and Chief Deputy Attorney General Angela Sperrazza of Pennsylvania’s Child Predators Division to fight “deepfake” images of minors and child sexual abuse material announced the bill, Senate Bill 1213, Act 125 of 2024. Artificial intelligence (AI).

Sen. Pennycuick said officials will discuss new legislation in response to the alarming rise in AI-generated deepfake sexual images of children and non-consensual adults.

The document also prohibits the use of AI to produce child sexual abuse material (previously known as “child pornography”), which was not prohibited by law.

They say law enforcement now has the ability to prosecute individuals who create and disseminate this type of child sexual abuse material.

They are scheduled to discuss the new law at the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office on Monday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m.
