Governor Tate Reeves Announces Signing of Executive Order 1584 on AI in Mississippi – January 2024
The Governor’s Artificial Intelligence Guidance will facilitate the enactment of relevant legislation, promote stakeholder collaboration, and leverage artificial intelligence in Mississippi.
On the second day of the 2025 legislative session, Governor Tate Reeves (R) signed Executive Order 1584, signaling the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in state government.
“AI will help Mississippi maintain its momentum and attract even more record-breaking (private capital) investment,” Reeves said, citing the $10 billion in private capital investment that Amazon announced last year. said. “We are excited about the potential of AI in Mississippi.”
Flanked by Senate Technology Committee Chairman Bert Williams (R) and House Technology Committee Chair Jill Ford (R), Governor Reeves will leverage emerging technology to streamline government operations, increase efficiency, and improve taxpayers’ He emphasized the state’s efforts to protect funds. To achieve this goal, Mr. Reeves encouraged appropriate collaboration among lawmakers, agency leaders, and private sector partners.

Specifically, the executive order names the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) as the primary promoter of the AI initiative and states that “all AI technologies that are planned, piloted, acquired, developed, and/or It instructs you to create an inventory. It’s used by all state agencies,” Reeves said.

The order directs ITS to work with state agencies to develop policy recommendations for the responsible use of AI by government agencies, and to work with public and private stakeholders to develop best practices, We provide advice and recommendations on appropriate usage and strategies where appropriate.
