Rochester, NY – Small and medium-sized businesses are increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI) to improve operations and help consumers. From sourcing raw materials to developing new products, AI is changing the functions of several small and medium-sized businesses.
“Nationwidely 60% of small business owners report using generative artificial intelligence such as Google Gemini and ChatGpt,” said Jordon Crenshaw of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Crenshaw highlighted business owners who use AI to source skincare product ingredients that are less susceptible to tariffs, avoiding the cost of passing consumers.
“AI has allowed small businesses to concentrate less on their backend jobs and mostly on the customers they work with,” Crenshaw said.
However, some small businesses are hesitant to adopt AI technology, especially in the small towns of America. Crenshaw said 77% of New York’s small businesses are concerned that they are inconsistent with AI laws across the country.
Without federal law, states have created their own AI regulations. President Donald Trump and Republicans argue that excessive regulation could hinder innovation. Last week, Sen. Ted Cruz introduced a proposal that allowed AI developers to waive state regulations that could hinder development.
For now, the future of AI regulations remains uncertain as states continue to pass their own measures.
