How deep thinking works: Extending Gemini’s parallel “thinking time”
In the same way that people approach complex problems by taking time to explore different angles, consider possible solutions, and narrow down the final answer, Deep Think pushes the frontiers of thinking ability by using parallel thinking techniques. This approach allows Gemini to generate many ideas at once, consider them simultaneously, and even modify and combine different ideas over time before arriving at the best answer.
Additionally, extending reasoning time or “think time” gives Gemini more time to consider different hypotheses and arrive at creative solutions to complex problems.
We also developed new reinforcement learning techniques that enable models to take advantage of these expanded inference paths. This allows Deep Think to become a better and more intuitive problem-solving tool over time.
