Dubai has launched a global classification system to allow people to easily understand whether content was created by humans, machines, or a combination of both.
The Human Machine Collaboration (HMC) Classification System, approved by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin bin Rashid Al Maktum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and the Chairman of the Dubai Future Foundation, is intended to provide transparency in the scope of technology (AI), such as artificial intelligence (AI), which is used to create research and content.
Developed by the Dubai Future Foundation, this system applies to research, academic, creative and intellectual materials such as text, visuals, and design.
“The distinction between human creativity and artificial intelligence is a real challenge in light of today’s rapid technological advances. This calls for a new approach to recognizing the growing role of intelligent machines. That’s why we launched the world’s first human-machine collaboration icon.
The system uses icons to indicate who or what contributed to the content. That is, it has five main icons: all human, human-driven, machine-assisted, machine-driven, and all machines. These icons indicate whether the content was created entirely by a person, partially helped by a machine, or completely generated by technology.
The system also introduces nine small icons to show which parts of the process are related to the machine that includes idea generation, writing, translation, data analysis, visuals, and more.
“The HMC icon provides a clear and standardized way of showing how much the machine is involved in the research and publication process within a particular report or publication,” the Dubai Future Foundation said on its website.
All Dubai government departments are instructed to use the system in their research and content work. The public can view and download icons by visiting www.dubaifuture.ae/hmc.
“We invite researchers, writers, publishers, designers and content creators from around the world to adopt this new global classification system and use it in a way that is responsible for helping people,” added Crown Prince Dubai.
