Expanding cooperation in France and Singapore’s civil nuclear energy, defense technology and AI research

Singapore and France have upgraded their strategic partnership, signed in 2012, to a comprehensive strategic partnership (CSP), marking Singapore’s first CSP as a European country.

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and French President Emmanuel Macron witnessed the exchange of 13 agreements at the Singapore Capitol on May 30 – the second day of a French leader’s visit to the state.

At a joint press conference after the exchange, the two leaders announced that France and Singapore will expand cooperation in areas such as civil nuclear power, intelligence sharing and defense technology, artificial intelligence (AI) research, security, and deeper collaboration under the framework of newly established bilateral partnerships.

Prime Minister Wong said it is important for like-minded countries such as France and Singapore to cooperate in an uncertain world.

In response, President Macron confirms that France and Singapore share many common perspectives, and the CSP reflects the deep trust between the two countries. He expressed his hope that both sides would cooperate more effectively in the business sector.

Macron arrived in Singapore on May 29th and gave a keynote speech at Shangri-La’s dialogue on May 30th.
