It’s fascinating to look back at some of our favourite films about the future and see the world they imagined. Watching the “Star Trek” episodes as a child, I remember being totally fascinated by their communicators. The idea is that a small handheld device can quickly connect you with people miles away. Now with my phone, what once looked futuristic is ubiquitous and has changed social norms forever.
Films likewise shape AI’s popular imagination and technological development. As AI moves out of the realm of science fiction and into our everyday lives, narrative films offer the opportunity to explore and showcase the ways in which we want to coexist with this technology. To spark this new wave of film exploration, we are working with our range media partners to unveil our new short film program, AI On AI.
Over the next 18 months, we will work with scope to commission an original story by a visionary filmmaker who explores the complex relationship between humanity and AI. We are looking for stories that resonate deeply on a human level, and explore the emotional and ethical dilemmas that arise when we entangle our lives with intelligent machines.
