Share Ilfingama with the research community
Recognizing the value of collaboration in scientific discovery, we plan to share Ilfingenma as an open model this summer. While being trained with the sounds of spotted Atlantic dolphins, its potential utility is expected for researchers studying other whale species, such as Bottlenose and Spinner dolphins. The vocalization of various species may require fine tuning, and the open nature of the model promotes this adaptation.
By providing tools such as Dolphingemma, we hope to provide researchers around the world with tools to mining their own acoustic datasets, accelerate pattern searches and collectively deepen their understanding of these intelligent marine mammals.
The journey to understanding dolphin communication is long, but the combination of dedicated field research from WDP, Georgia Tech’s engineering expertise and Google’s technology powers opens exciting new possibilities. We’re not just listening anymore. We are beginning to understand patterns in sounds, paving the way for a future where the gap between human and dolphin communication may be slightly smaller.
