Kuala Lumpur (July 7): Malaysia’s upcoming guidelines on responsible AI communications provide a critical framework to help media, public relations and create digital content, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
He said the guidelines are for AI to shape more and more public discourse, complementing the country’s national AI roadmap and supporting ethical, transparent and reliable communication practices.
Fami emphasized that technology must serve humanity rather than replace it, and urged communication experts, led by comprehensive and transparent principles, to lead with purpose.
“We live in an age where communication is unbounded and more and more shaped by artificial intelligence… Even as machines evolve, they never change. – Fahmi said in her keynote address via video message at the Kuala Lumpur International PR Conference (KLIP 7) on Monday.
He said Fami will serve as ASEAN chairman in Malaysia, who will effectively tackle the forum from Geneva, which is leading Malaysian delegations to the Intelligence Association +20 High Level Event (WSIS +20).
He praises KLIP 7’s theme “Impact AI, Social Media Communication, Online Education” as highly relevant and focuses on the transformational role that technology plays in how information is consumed and communicated.
The Minister also highlighted the Venice pledge approved by the Global Alliance for Public Relations as a new global benchmark for ethical and human-led AI communications.
“The Malaysian Institute of Public Relations (IPRM), Jafri Amin Osman and of course Malaysians are part of the Global Alliance Committee and we take pride in having played an important role in shaping the Venice pledge,” he said.
He also congratulated the recipients of the ASEAN PR Excellence Awards.
Since its founding in 2019, KLIP has become a vital global conference to promote the sharing of not only ASEAN and later academics, but also PR and communications leaders, experts and the latest industry insights.
This year, KLIP will showcase keynote speakers, panel discussions and interactive sessions from international, ASEAN and nationally, providing participants with valuable insights and networking opportunities.
