Microsoft on Wednesday (November 27) denied claims that it uses customer data from Microsoft 365 applications such as Word and Excel to train artificial intelligence (AI) models.
The move comes after some users on social media pointed out that the company was asking users to opt out of its “Connected Experiences” feature, which is used to train AI models.
“These claims are not true. Microsoft does not use customer data from Microsoft 365 consumer and commercial applications to train fundamental large-scale language models,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that the “connected experience” enables features such as collaborative editing and cloud storage, and is not related to how the company trains its large-scale language models.
Conversations on social media show that people remain concerned about their data being used to train AI models without their permission. Reuters
