Meta AI has been the most active of the group of 10 artificial intelligence chatbots widely used in retrieving user data by collecting 32 out of 35 different data points from users, including contact details, financial information, user content, usage, diagnosis, and location.

Google Gemini is the second most data-hungry AI chatbot for users, followed by POE, Claude AI and Microsoft Copilot, the latter being the only other chatbot except Meta AI, which, according to Surfshark analysis, has collected user ID linked information and displayed third-party ads. Additionally, it was discovered that both POE, Copilot, and Jasper had retrieved data that was exploited for user tracking. The first two were to give the user’s device ID to the data broker. China’s AI platform Deepseek has raised data privacy concerns for its China-based servers, but only ranks sixth, but researchers have warned about the company’s long-term data storage policies. “Don’t disappoint your security guards as chats stored on servers are always at risk of being compromised,” Surfshark said.
