Rivers – The Nigerian Navy has announced plans to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies to enhance training nationwide and its internal security operations.

Vice-General Isitiphanus Albara (NAVTRAC) of the Flag Officer Commander (FOC) Navy Training Command (NAVTRAC) informed this on Saturday to show his redeployment at the farewell parade at the River Ebubu Ereme headquarters.

Albara said the Navy has plans to integrate AI to improve maritime security, strengthen training and simulation capabilities and support Nigeria’s broader economic and national security goals.

According to him, AI recruitment is central to strengthening the professional training and retraining of both executives and strengthening Navy evaluation.

“More recently, technology has driven everything, especially with the advent of artificial intelligence, which is set to shape the future of security operations.

“The Nigerian Navy is committed to incorporating AI technology into its training programmes and is preparing personnel for future warfare and internal security operations,” he said.

The outgoing FOC further noted that the Navy is considering training curriculum and capacity building strategies in personnel management.

He praised Navy Staff (CNS), Deputy Prime Minister Emmanuel Ogara, for prioritizing infrastructure, training and other reforms within the service.

Looking back on his 16-month tenure, Albara expressed his gratitude to God, the CNS, and members of the Order for their support.

“My tenure has been extremely eventful and I am deeply grateful for the opportunities and challenges that have helped shape my orders,” he said.

He highlighted several achievements during his tenure, including the accreditation and curriculum upgrade of the Navy’s specialized institutions and the relocation of NAVTRAC headquarters from Apapa in Lagos to Ebubueleme.

According to him, the order focused on improving professionalism through realistic training, innovation and strategic partnerships.

“Efforts have also been made to strengthen our e-learning platform, restore simulation tools such as ECDIS from NNS Quorra, and begin accreditation in relevant national athletics, including NIMASA,” he said.

Albara added that new training sites have been acquired at Makurdi and OTA Inogun in Benue with support from their respective state governments and traditional institutions.

He urged the order to maintain current momentum and ensure completion of the ongoing project.

Nigeria (NAN) news reports that the event ended with a formal handover to Albara’s successor, Lt. Gen. Robert Obaya.

Highlights included a ritual parade featuring slow and rapid March Past and other naval operations. (Nan)
