Netflix announced an initiative to leverage generative AI across its streaming platform to improve various aspects of the service, including recommendations, advertising, and content creation. Critics are concerned about the widespread adoption of “AI Slop,” the low-quality AI videos that flood platforms like YouTube.
In its latest earnings report, Netflix highlighted the significant opportunities generative AI presents and its potential to revolutionize the entertainment industry, as reported by CNBC. The company has been using machine learning and AI for several years to power its title recommendation, production and promotion technology. However, with rapid advances in generative AI, Netflix is now fully embracing this technology to “enhance” its streaming experience and content creation process.
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos told investors: “We believe AI will help us and help our creative partners tell stories better, faster and in new ways. We’re all in it.” He emphasized that while AI won’t automatically make someone a better storyteller, it can certainly enhance the creative process and help provide more impactful titles to Netflix members.
The streaming giant has already started implementing generative AI tools in various projects. For example, the recent film “Happy Gilmore 2” used AI to prevent characters from aging, while the producers of the “Billionaire Banker” series used generative AI tools to consider wardrobe and set design during pre-production. These examples show real-world applications of AI in the entertainment industry and how it can streamline certain aspects of the production process.
Despite growing concerns in the entertainment and arts worlds about the potential for AI to replace human workers and its use of artificial content, Netflix remains optimistic about technology’s role in enhancing rather than replacing creativity. The company has released new AI-focused production guidance aimed at encouraging the responsible use of AI tools for creators and fostering a collaborative environment between human creativity and artificial intelligence.
Breitbart News recently reported that Netflix posted its sixth consecutive quarter of profits as the backlash against transgender content gains momentum.
Tennessee Republican Rep. Tim Burchett has already called on Netflix executives to explain the large amount of “satanic” transgender content in their children’s titles.
Burchett and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) handed a letter to the streamer calling its executives to a committee hearing after learning that the cartoon series for children under 13, Dead End: Paranormal Park, featured a transgender protagonist.
“We need to bring them to the committee and ask them what their intentions are with this and do they understand what is actually going on,” Rep. Burchett told FOX News.
