SAN JOSE, Calif. — Quantum Corporation announced the availability of Scalar i7 RAPTOR, the latest advancement in tape storage technology tailored to support expanding AI and cloud use cases.
Announced in March of this year, Scalar i7 RAPTOR is designed for hyperscale customers, managed service providers (MSPs), and large enterprises and is the densest and most scalable tape solution on the market. As organizations seek to retain more data than ever before for AI, analytics, and business insights, this new offering provides an ultra-low-cost solution for data lakes, data protection, and private and hybrid cloud deployments. We provide green and safe solutions to our customers.
“IDC expects the surge in demand for AI workloads to significantly increase data center capacity, energy consumption, and carbon emissions, with AI data center capacity expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate ( CAGR) is expected to be 40.5%,” said Greg. Macatee, research manager in IDC’s Infrastructure Systems, Platforms, and Technology Group. “With this increase in energy consumption, businesses need new and innovative infrastructure to improve power and data center efficiency.”
Scalar i7 RAPTOR uses unique technology to protect sensitive data
Quantum Corporation says Scalar i7 RAPTOR is a significant advance in storage density, delivering up to 200% better performance compared to traditional scale-up enterprise libraries and up to 82% better performance compared to new scale-out high-density libraries. We are proud of Scalar i7 RAPTOR features 2,008 usable data slots in a single tape library cabinet or frame, delivering over 36 PB of storage using LTO-9 (native 18 TB/cartridge). Masu. According to the company, this density advantage provides significant cost savings for customers, reducing customer library acquisition costs, support costs, floor space costs, power/cooling costs, and colocation costs.
The California-based company also notes that the Scalar i7 RAPTOR’s design greatly simplifies servicing by allowing all components to be serviced and replaced by customers in less than five minutes. Additionally, all replaceable components are hardened to minimize handling damage and allow for customer replacement. Quantum Corporation claims that this service simplification reduces downtime and improves customer service level agreements (SLAs). Additionally, all tape hardware is installed at the factory, simplifying on-site installation and allowing customers to install it themselves if desired.
Other features offered by Scalar i7 RAPTOR on Quantum tape libraries include advanced patented ransomware recovery features such as Active Vault and Logical Tape Blocking. Quantum libraries are said to leverage features that protect libraries from unauthorized access, ensure data integrity, and provide enhanced air-gap protection beyond the normal protection of other libraries.
ActiveScale and Scalar i7 RAPTOR provide cost-effective, S3 Glacier-compatible cold storage services. ActiveScale helps manage and optimize data placement across libraries by deploying multiple Scalar i7 RAPTORs in a Redundant Array of Independent Libraries (RAIL) architecture, delivering industry-leading availability, performance, and storage efficiency I will. The turnkey solution is designed to provide significantly greater durability than multicopy tape systems and enhance data accessibility compared to hyperscale cloud storage and S3 to object gateway solutions. ‘s capabilities allow organizations to easily deploy low-cost, high-density, self-service. Services Data Lakes, Storage Clouds, and Large-Scale Archives.
Additionally, Quantum Corporation emphasizes that Scalar i7 RAPTOR integrates with StorNext data services such as FlexTier to provide complete data lifecycle management from data creation to long-term retention and recall. StorNext provides continuous access as data moves between storage media, from Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) or solid state drives (SSD) to hard disk drives (HDD), tape, or the cloud.
