Cortex Code is designed for in-house software development teams where AI algorithms can succeed at low-level tasks. Cortex Code, described in the company’s press release as a coding and orchestration “layer” with new options for integration with external data sources, now supports AWS Glue, Databricks, and Postgres. Cortex Code can also connect to other language models through MCP and ACP (Agent Communication Protocol). ACP (Agent Communication Protocol) is a more commerce-driven protocol that emerged around the same time as MCP, which is managed by Anthropic.
VS Code users will soon see Cortex Code as an extension (currently in private preview). A Snowflake plugin for Claude Code is currently in development. Snowflake’s agent software development kits for Python and TypeScript are available, allowing teams to embed Cortex code functions into their own applications.
Cloud Agents is also in private preview and will appear in Snowflake’s browser-based interface, Snowsight. Planning mode allows users to preview and approve workflows before running the AI. The company is working on a feature that will allow end users to see details of the lengthy research process that LLM conducts to scrutinize the veracity of the process.
Snowflake says more than 9,100 customers use its AI products each week. Snowflake says more than half of its customers are using Snowflake Intelligence and Cortex Code since its launch six months ago.
The company’s two-pronged approach (mainstream business users and software development teams) doubles down on the company’s core technology market, but also broadens platform adoption to general business function users. New software connectors, mobile apps, and browser-based options create a broader user market, and additional support for existing systems further broadens its appeal among businesses with embedded workflows and software platforms.
Sameer Vuyyuru, Chief AI and Product Officer at Capita said: “Snowflake helps us securely deploy AI with the right governance across highly regulated public services where performance, compliance, and reliability are critical.”
