The future of physical AI revealed in the LG and NVIDIA meeting

LG is currently in preliminary discussions with NVIDIA regarding physical AI, data centers, and mobility.

After a meeting in Seoul with LG CEO Ryu Jae-cheol and Madison Huang, NVIDIA’s senior director of product marketing for Omniverse and Robotics, the core operational dependencies needed to run complex automation systems became clear.

Although the companies have not formally announced investment amounts or timelines, the intersection of hardware and processing priorities highlights the large capital expenditures required to take autonomous systems out of simulation.

The densification of computational clusters required for complex machine learning models creates unavoidable physical challenges. NVIDIA’s data center business is generating record revenues, but operating these high-density server racks pushes traditional cooling infrastructure beyond safe operating limits.

At CES 2026, LG positioned its commercial division to provide high-efficiency HVAC and thermal management solutions designed for AI data centers. With the associated explosion in power density, traditional air cooling is simply inadequate.

When server farm temperatures exceed safe thresholds, compute node performance is throttled and the return on investment for high-end silicon is compromised. Integrating LG thermal hardware directly into NVIDIA’s infrastructure ecosystem addresses this margin drain. This allows facility operators to pack more processing power into a smaller square footage without depleting the underlying hardware.

This will allow LG to complement the computing layer rather than compete with it, generating recurring revenue for the company as an infrastructure supplier within a profitable technology ecosystem. Underscoring this broader commitment to connected enterprise systems, LG subsidiary LG CNS is sponsoring this year’s IoT Tech Expo North America, marking the company’s aggressive expansion across smart infrastructure.

Friction between hardware actuation and edge inference

The discussion moves beyond server infrastructure and attempts to address the computational delays inherent in autonomous consumer hardware. LG’s future growth themes rely heavily on automating manual and cognitive workloads in the home.

LG recently announced CLOiD, a home robot with two arms with seven degrees of freedom and five fingers on each hand that act independently. The hardware runs on LG’s Affectionate Intelligence platform, built for situational awareness and continuous environmental learning.

Translating computational commands into physical movements requires a perfect zero-delay inference pipeline. When the articulated robot reaches for the glass, the system must process real-time visual data, query a local vector database to determine the characteristics of the object, and calculate the exact grip force required. Miscalculations within this inference pipeline risk physical damage to the user’s home.

LG currently lacks the digital twin infrastructure, pre-trained operational models, and simulation environments needed to securely compress this deployment pipeline. NVIDIA delivers this architecture through its Omniverse and Isaac robotics stacks, which are optimized for real-time physical AI inference.

By adopting NVIDIA’s edge computing capabilities, LG will be able to process complex spatial variables locally, significantly reducing cloud computing costs associated with continuous spatial mapping and video ingestion. This proven pipeline reduces the time needed to move from prototype to full commercial production.

Mass market uptake and simulation environment

NVIDIA is simultaneously validating the robot stack, which concluded a two-week trial at a Siemens factory in January 2026 and was just unveiled at Hannover Messe in April.

In this test, the humanoid HMND 01 Alpha performed live logistics operations for eight hours. However, the Erlangen factory floor is highly structured and regulated. Consumers’ living rooms contain extreme variability, changing lighting, and unpredictable human interference.

Access to LG’s ThinQ ecosystem and its mass-market distribution provides NVIDIA with a data-rich training environment. In order to bring robots into the home, models must be trained based on real household fluctuations, rather than sterile simulations.

Moving beyond industrial environments and into consumer electronics, NVIDIA’s Omniverse platform mirrors how its GPU architecture captured cloud processing, giving it the potential to become a universal development infrastructure for real-world autonomy.

The final adjustment point covers automotive integration. LG’s Automotive Components division is one of the fastest growing segments, manufacturing in-vehicle infotainment, EV components, and in-cabin generation platforms, including eye tracking and adaptive displays. At the same time, NVIDIA’s DRIVE platform is gaining significant adoption share in autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle computing.

Automakers often struggle when trying to bridge traditional infotainment systems with advanced autonomous computing nodes. Since LG and NVIDIA already operate on adjacent layers in the same vehicle, the formal partnership will bring together LG’s interior experience layer and NVIDIA’s underlying computing platform. This integration allows fleet operators to standardize on reference architectures, reduce engineering time wasted on custom API integrations, and ensure a unified path for over-the-air machine learning updates.

These exploratory discussions between LG and NVIDIA will define the precise hardware and processing requirements needed to reliably run physical AI.
