Amid the future prospective movement to increase the effectiveness of legislative work, the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Secretariat is set up to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) training to members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAS). The training will be conducted by the prestigious Professor of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and may take place during or soon after the upcoming monsoon session.
Participation in training is voluntary to equip MLAS with a basic understanding of AI tools and practical applications in governance and legislation. The initiative is designed to help legislators use technology to streamline their obligations and decision-making processes.

During the session, MLAs will be featured in a variety of ways that allow AI to help draft bills, identify legal loopholes and function the law, including drafting bills, identifying legal loopholes, comparing state and national legislation, analyzing public opinion through online platforms, investigations, and petitions. AI tools also allow predictive analysis of the socioeconomic impact of proposed laws.
This training covers the AI’s ability to organize and retrieve old legislative documents, discussions and reports, allowing for faster and more efficient references. The MLA also shows how AI can translate speeches and documents into multiple Indian languages and monitor government projects progress and spending in real time through AI-powered dashboards.
The emphasis is placed on the ethical use of AI, ensuring that citizen data is strictly protected and implemented in a safe, fair and transparent way.
As part of a broader vision, the Congressional Secretariat is also investigating the formation of a dedicated AI support unit. They support lawmakers in legal research, document verification, and policy analysis. Additionally, regular AI-related workshops are planned for MLAs and their staff.
