This week, the UK government took steps to begin addressing the need for regulation around what content AI developers should be allowed to use when training their models. A consultation has begun, which will be accepted until February 25, 2025. It proposed “introducing an exception to copyright law for AI training for commercial purposes.” The creators then rejected this idea. The UK government has also introduced new online safety regulations, forcing technology companies to take action against illegal activity on their platforms. Media regulator Ofcom on Monday published the first edition of its code of practice and guidance to tackle illegal harm.
In other UK news, Temu was named the most downloaded iPhone app of 2024. Additionally, we found that Barb’s Advanced Campaign Hub planning tool overestimated broadcasters’ reach by an average of 40%.
