Joel Pineau, vice president of AI research meta, announced in a Facebook post Tuesday. Pineau said he retired in May after overseeing Fair, Meta’s internal AI lab led by Jan Lekun for more than two years.
Pineau’s departure comes as Meta plans to step up its AI efforts and spend $65 billion on AI infrastructure in 2025.
In a statement to Bloomberg News, a Meta spokesperson said the company has not been replaced immediately by Pineau, but is searching for her successor. Last year, Meta reportedly reorganised the company and reorganized the AI Research Unit report into the company’s chief product officer, Chris Cox.
As for Pineau, the executive said he would take a little break before diving into an unknown “new adventure.”
