Meta PMs embrace their role as AI builders and reshape the dynamics of the tech industry

Meta Product Manager is undergoing a rebrand. Some now call themselves “AI builders,” indicating that AI coding tools are changing who can build software in-house.

One of them, Jeremy Gage, announced the changes in a LinkedIn post last week. “I still can’t believe I’m writing this. As of today, my full-time job at Meta is AI Builder,” he wrote.

Guedj has spent more than a decade as a traditional product manager, a role that sets the roadmap and strategy for products built by engineering teams. He said Meta’s internal systems title still lists product manager, but his real job is now building with AI full-time on what he calls the “AI native team.”

Another Meta product manager also lists “AI Builder” on his LinkedIn profile, and at least two other Meta engineers have that term in their bios, Business Insider found.

This change is in line with the message CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressed during Meta’s latest earnings call. 2026 is the year when AI tools will significantly change the way work is done within companies. AI coding tools are already revolutionizing the tech industry, allowing more people to build apps from scratch without having much technical skills.

“We’re investing in AI-native tools so Meta individuals can do more work,” Zuckerberg said. “We are elevating individual contributors and flattening teams. Projects that once required large teams are now accomplished by one extremely talented person.”

Gezi’s role can be said to be the practical expression of that vision. In his post, he described his team as one where “data and knowledge are AI-friendly at their core, and humans and AI agents work together synchronously and asynchronously.”

Meta did not respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.

Meta blurs the lines between engineers and product managers

“AI builder” is not an official meta designation, at least not yet. Gezi admitted that is not his official title.

One Meta employee, who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press, said the label is not a formal role and is likely an experiment within a specific organization as Meta pushes AI-native teams companywide. One such organization is Meta’s Reality Labs, the division responsible for its smart glasses and virtual reality efforts, the person said.

“Software engineers become product managers, and product managers become software engineers,” they added. “The purpose is to increase the productivity of individual contributors.”

Inside Meta, the transition from coordinators to builders has been visible for months. In November, Joseph Spisak, product director at Meta’s Superintelligence Institute, said the company’s product managers were vibe-coding a prototype and showing it directly to Zuckerberg.

“You can literally vibrate a code product in hours or days and explore that area,” Spisak said.

In January, another Meta product manager, Zevi Arnowitz, said on a podcast that using AI coding tools feels like being handed “superpowers.” Arnowitz, who said he has no technical background, described re-architecting workflows around AI as more of a product owner who can execute rather than a director who moves work between engineering and design.

How LinkedIn and Google encourage AI builders

Some companies have gone beyond experimentation. In December, LinkedIn discontinued its long-running Associate Product Manager program and replaced it with an Associate Product Builder track.

Tomer Cohen, LinkedIn’s chief product officer at the time, said on a podcast that the company wants to train new hires who can code, design and manage products — people who are “flexible enough to cross” the boundaries of traditional roles.

Last year, Madhu Gurumurthy, the company’s head of AI model products, tweeted that the company was moving to a “build first” culture. In the age of vibe coding, product managers can’t tell, they can show, Gurumurthy said. “The contours of roles are blurring, and creativity and construction are occurring in parallel,” he wrote.

“Each company is approaching this differently and we’re still figuring out solutions,” one Google product manager, who requested anonymity, told Business Insider. “I’ve been encouraging the designers and product managers on my team to blur their roles a little.”

Guedj, a self-proclaimed meta-AI builder, says: “Building has always been a passion of mine. AI gave me the ability to turn ideas into working apps. That changed everything.”
