Sepang, June 18th – The National AI Office (NAIO) will submit proposals for artificial intelligence (AI) laws to the Ministry of Digital by the end of this month.
Digital Minister Govind Singh Deo said NAIO is tasked with submitting recommendations on AI Act to help develop a comprehensive governance framework.
“The Ministry of Digital has begun the process by keeping a dialogue with the industry…and now we are engaging and interacting with all the relevant ministries and agencies.
“When we receive a proposal from NAIO, we will post the paper in the cabinet. We will ask for guidance on what to do next. If the paper is handed over by the Cabinet and accepted, we will need to start working on the bill itself.”
Prime Minister Prime Minister Datuk Seri Azarina Osman said yesterday that Malaysia is researching to develop AI laws to address the legal complexities of the digital age.
She wrote to Gobind to propose a meeting between the Legal Affairs Department (BHEUU) and the Ministry of Digital, and said she has begun discussions on the drafting of the new AI Act.
According to Azalina, Malaysia does not have any specific laws focusing on AI. This is because unlike traditional technology, AI operates on a completely different platform. – Bernama
