Mumbai, July 9 (IANS) Padma Bhushan winner Shekhar Kapur has come out to support artificial intelligence in the content business.
On Wednesday, the director took him to his previous Twitter, X, and his previous Twitter, writing a lengthy note about AI being the best thing that has happened to the storyteller. He called it the most democratic technology ever.
He said, “It’s amazing that people in the content business are not aware of major changes. AI is causing it. We are afraid of change or we are hiding our heads in the sand. AI is the most democratic technology ever. Therefore, we are the gatekeeper of the content business.
He further stated that even challenges for the art created by AI are not a challenge when quoting the example of the Chinese short-form video platform Tiktok.
“And the argument that they still need our distribution is not held.. Remember Tiktok? It was a billion dollar business before Hollywood even spelled out the words. It was time for the best storytellers, not the gatekeeper.”
The debate about the growing influence of AI in the content business has long been brewed. The recent controversy over ChatGpt, which creates Studio Ghibli-style art, has sparked a huge uproar in the creator circle.
In a sense, resistance is not new, as we have seen the same resistance to technology since the time of the first industrial revolution. In West Bengal, the CPI(M) government banned computers in the 1980s. However, they use AI during their state election campaign. After all, a march of time and technology is inevitable, bringing about a new world order.
