Trend Micro reveals Deepfake-enabled criminal playbook for cybercrime
Hong Kong SAR -Media Outreach Newswire- July 10, 2025 – Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global cybersecurity leader, today released a new report revealing the scale and maturity of deepfake-enabled cybercrime. As generator AI tools become more powerful, affordable and accessible, cybercriminals are rapidly adopting them to support attacks ranging from business fraud to fear tor and identity theft.

The report shows how deepfakes have moved beyond hype into real-world exploitation, undermining digital trusts, putting businesses at new risks, and accelerating the business models of cybercriminals.
Tony Lee, head of consulting for Trends Hong Kong & Macau, said, “The media generated by AI is not just a future risk, it’s a real business threat. We see executives spoofing, hiring the hiring process and detouring it with incredible ease. Digital trusts need to be rebuilt from scratch.”
Research shows that threat actors no longer need underground expertise to launch a compelling attack. Instead, they use off-the-shelf video, audio and image generation platforms. Many of them are sold to content creators, producing realistic deepfakes that deceive both individuals and organizations. These tools are inexpensive, easy to use, and can bypass identity verification systems and security controls.
This report outlines the growing cybercrime ecosystem that these platforms are used to carry out compelling scams.
CEO fraud is becoming increasingly difficult to detect as attackers use Deepfake audio or video impersonating senior leaders in real-time meetings. The recruitment process is compromised by fake candidates who use AI to pass interviews and gain unauthorized access to internal systems. Financial services companies have seen a surge in Deepfark’s attempts to bypass KYC (know customers) checks, allowing anonymous money laundering through forged qualifications.
Criminal Underground is actively trading tutorials, toolkits and services to streamline these operations. From step-by-step playbooks to bypass onboarding procedures to plug-and-playface swapping tools, input barriers are kept to a minimum.
As deepfake-ready fraud grows in frequency and complexity, businesses are required to take proactive steps to minimize risk exposure and protect people and processes. This includes training staff on social engineering risks, reviewing authentication workflows, and exploring synthetic media detection solutions. hashtag: #trendmicro #trendvisionone #visionone #cybersecurity
