Is AI reliable when asking questions about layers? You may not want to rely on this information to interpret laws, courts, and tribunal decisions, writes Tony Gioventu.
Dear Tony: Our general meeting of shareholders is typically held in mid-December each year. As a self-managed townhouse complex of 108 units, we send out notices by mail each year, but due to a postal strike, our options are limited to hand delivery.
One of our council members attempted a search using AI posts and found that BC legislation needed to be updated to provide businesses with the option of email notifications. We found conflicting information regarding this issue.
I have also tried to determine the notification period for different types of notifications, and the results keep coming back to 14 days, but I always understood that 20 days are required for the notification to complete. . Is AI reliable in asking questions about layers?

There are many beneficial uses for AI programs and searches. However, I do not rely on them for interpretations of laws, courts, or tribunal decisions.
There are over 35,000 businesses in British Columbia, each with varying designs, articles of incorporation, bylaws, design models, and operations, making governance information unlikely to be reliable.
There are AI programs that provide a great platform for business planning, budgeting, and updating. These are great benefits for communities that are investing in the long-term operation of their properties.
Email has been used as a method of providing notices regarding general meetings, enforcement of bylaws and regulations, and collections under the Strata Property Act. A key feature of email notifications that businesses and owners need to manage is consensual consent. Owner may provide and consent to an email address for the purpose of receiving formal communications from Strata Corporation. Strata Corporation will also provide Owner with an email address so Owner can notify Strata Corporation of requests for changes, requests for hearings, or other forms of notice.
As a strata corporation, check which strata lot your email address applies to and the name of the registered owner, tenant, or mortgage provider who will be assigned voting rights and receive notifications.
The email address forms part of the Owner List and must be provided upon request to any Owner or Tenant requesting a copy of the Owner List. 14 days’ notice is not sufficient. For example, hand delivery has the shortest notice period. However, this assumes you can deliver the notification directly to all owners on the same day. Additionally, the date of delivery and receipt of the notice will be an additional day based on the Interpretation Act, and in the case of mail, fax, or email, 4 days will be added to the notice period.
Yes, you were right. To ensure that all forms of notifications are covered, we allow 20 full days for notifications to be delivered. AI programs and support will improve over time, but I always refer to publicly available laws and references.
