According to an internal slide in a recent presentation, Microsoft is trying to simplify many AI products by streamlining how products are marketed to customers.
The software giant has a lot of different AI tools called Copilot. The Team Chat apps include Copilot, the PowerPoint presentation tool Copilot, and the Outlook email service Copilot.
These products are often divided into different “solution areas,” as Microsoft calls them. Using co-pilot tools on many different buckets can slow sales, disrupt customers, and affect the cost and quality of the tool. They asked not to identify any discussion of private issues.
Microsoft has a sales team focused on each solution area. This is currently integrated.
This week, Microsoft CEO Judson Altoff announced plans for the company to address these issues next year, starting in July. BI got a copy of the slide from his presentation.
According to one of the slides, it includes three major changes.
Integrate Microsoft’s solution area. Accelerate local skills on a large scale. The team works with small, medium and corporate customers working with external channel partners selling and selling Microsoft products.
The organization currently has six solution areas: modern work, business applications, digital & app innovation, data & AI, Azure infrastructure and security.
Starting in July, these areas will be combined into three parts: AI Business Solutions, Cloud and AI Platforms, and Security.
AI Business Solutions includes tools such as Copilot for Microsoft 365, Copilot for Teams, Copilot for Outlook, and a data visualization product called Power BI. This person asked not to identify any discussion of private issues.
“We are evolving the commercial solutions area within our sales organization to better reflect the age of AI and support the growth of our customers and partners,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement. “This evolution reflects a change in how our customers and partners are purchasing, and we will better serve their needs.”
Other changes include expanding sales rep training and reorganising into a small Enterprise & Channel (SME&C) team announced internally earlier this year.
This change happens as Microsoft is trying to find a way to make money from critical AI investments. I’m contemplating changes that include new software bundles using Copilot. The company said earlier this year it plans to spend $80 billion to expand its AI data center network.
