TL;DR

SwitchBot has launched AI Art Frame, a colorful E Ink photo frame with built-in AI art generation. This frame supports text-to-image prompts, remixes, and doodle-to-art conversion, as well as up to 2 years of battery life. Prices start at $149.99 for the 7.3-inch model.

The AI-generated image found a new canvas: the wall. SwitchBot’s latest creation is neither a robot nor a smart lock. This is a collection of E Ink picture frames that double as an always-on AI art display.

On the hardware side, the frame features E Ink Spectra 6 technology, designed to mimic the look of real paint on real paper. Like other E Ink displays, it has no glare or backlighting, making it easier on the eyes and better suited as wall art than LCD or OLED screens. Through the SwitchBot app, users can upload and organize artwork, save up to 10 images locally, sync new content, and schedule images to cycle on and off at specified times. The frames come in 7.3-inch, 13.3-inch, and 31.5-inch builds, each with both horizontal and vertical support.

To maintain its premium look, the AI Art Frame uses a high-grade aluminum alloy body and completely avoids visible cables. Each has a built-in 2,000mAh battery, which SwitchBot says can last up to two years on a single charge. Like most E Ink devices, the frame only draws power when the display is updated, so changing it frequently will drain the battery faster.

But the star feature is SwitchBot’s AI Studio, powered by Nano Banana. The studio offers users two ways to create personalized AI-generated art, from reinterpreting classics to reworking personal photos. AI art prompts allow users to generate artwork using text prompts and reference images. Alternatively, AI Art Remix allows users to take existing photos and images and make them look like everything from oil paintings to anime. SwitchBot says you can also use the studio to turn your personal sketches into exhibit-worthy pieces.

AI Art Frame starts at $149.99 for the smallest 7.3-inch model and scales up to $349.99 for the medium 13.3-inch unit and $1,299.99 for the larger 31.5-inch version. SwitchBot offers a variety of bundle options for building gallery walls and outfitting multiple spaces. The company includes a 30-day free trial with up to 400 AI generation per month. After that, access costs $3.99 per month.

Digital art frames and color E Ink displays are nothing new. This year’s CES has seen some impressive models announced. However, incorporating AI generation directly into the frame will propel this category towards more active personalization and interaction. Whether you view the results as art or “AI slop,” there’s no doubt that they’re versatile. SwitchBot’s AI art frame hints at where low-power always-on displays are headed.
