NCsoft will create three new game studios and an AI subsidiary, the game publisher announced Thursday.
The three game studios will be named FirstSpark Games, BigFire Games, and Ludius Games, and the AI company will be named NC AI, the game publisher decided at its shareholder meeting on Thursday.
Both companies are scheduled to open on February 1st.
FirstSpark Games operates Throne and Liberty, massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) targeting international markets.
BigFire Games will be working on NCsoft’s third-person open-world shooter game (codenamed LLL) and real-time strategy game Tactan: Knights of the Gods, both of which are currently in development.
NC AI will lead NCsoft’s AI enhancements, including its homegrown large-scale language model Varco and the application of the technology to games.
“Through our transition to an independent game development studio system, NCsoft is creating an innovative game development culture with speed, flexibility, and creativity to create new IP for the global market,” said Park Byung-moo, Co-CEO of NCsoft. We will actively come up with ideas.” Thursday’s general meeting of shareholders.
NCsoft’s labor union held a rally at the company’s research and development center in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province, and criticized the spinoff as a way to shift blame for management failures.
