Qualcomm (QCOM, Financial) has launched an AI research centre in Vietnam, focusing on generation AI and agent AI technologies for smartphones, personal computers, augmented reality, automotive systems, and IoT devices. The initiative is in line with Vietnam’s strategic focus on artificial intelligence, semiconductors and digital transformation.
The Centre aims to promote technology transfer, ecosystem collaboration and capacity building. At a meeting in Hanoi, Vietnamese officials encouraged Qualcomm to deepen their involvement in the semiconductor and digital infrastructure sectors. The development is expected to attract local talent and stimulate local innovation.
As an important part of Qualcomm’s global R&D network, the centre is poised to promote AI solution development in the core market. By establishing this functional centre in Vietnam, Qualcomm can diversify R&D locations and strengthen relationships with local partners. Despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and macroeconomic risks, the move highlights Qualcomm’s commitment to global AI advancement, and if successful, it can support long-term growth.
